Ahoi Ashtami fasting story

In ancient times, a moneylender had seven sons and seven daughters-in-law. This moneylender also had a daughter who had come to her maternal home from her in-laws’ house on Diwali. On Diwali, seven daughters-in-law and sister-in-law went to the forest to bring soil to cover the house. Syahu (porcupine) lived with her seven sons at the place where the moneylender’s daughter was cutting the soil. A child of ink died due to the injury of a moneylender’s daughter’s scabbard accidentally while cutting the soil. Syahu got angry on this and said I will tie your womb.

Afraid of ink, the moneylender’s daughter pleads one by one to her seven sisters-in-law to get her womb tied up instead. The youngest sister-in-law agrees to have her womb tied in exchange for her sister-in-law. After this, all the children of the younger sister-in-law, they die after seven days. After this he called the Pandit and asked the reason, then the Pandit advised to serve the Surhi cow.

Pleased with the service, Surhi takes him to Syahu. Meanwhile, both of them take rest when they are tired. Suddenly the little daughter-in-law of the moneylender sees that a snake is going to bite the child of Garuda Pankhni and she kills the snake. In this, Garuda Pankhni comes there and along with Surhi brings them to Syahu. There, Syahu, pleased with the service of the younger daughter-in-law, blesses her to have seven sons and seven daughters-in-law. With the blessings of Syahu, the house of the younger daughter-in-law becomes green with sons and daughter-in-law.
